We were lucky enough to have a place in Whistler this past Christmas and were recommended Monks by some friends. We went on Christmas Eve and cannot praise this place enough. We had a very intelligent server who knew the menu and ingredients thoroughly. The restaurant was very smart and modern and the presentation of the food was just as good. Monks was pricey but most definately worth it if your planning to treat yourself.

My husband and I went for his birthday. It was a comfy place, and wasn't crowded at all. The food was really good, with the exception of the Pear Dessert. It was horrible. It cut the inside of my husband's mouth because the carmel was so sharp! The service was fantastic until the restaurant had more customers, and then quickly fell off a cliff. It was a bit more expensive than we thought it would be. It was about $140 CAD for two steaks, fries, soup, salad, and the leave you a mouth wound, pear dessert. Would we eat there again? Yes, probably.

Not Impressed

After solid reviews regarding Monk's we were very quite disappointed with our experience. Firstly, the wine we ordered was not the vintage we received and when queried were not offered a suitable answer. When the wine arrived we were not happy with the quality and declined it. The third bottle was bland, we later found it in a bottle shop for $19 after paying $60 we were very disappointed (no one minds paying a premium in a restaurant, this however seemed excessive). The service was tricky after the wine issue and persisted for the remainder of the evening. Overall, we were quite dismayed with the service, the food and the wine. For the cost of each I could not comfortably recommend Monks to anyone. cc

We were in Whistler for two nights.  Found Monk's by our hotel and decided to try for dinner.

We decided to order the price fix meal for $29/each.  There were several choices for starters, dinner, and dessert.  We both had the panko crusted soft shell crab and it was heavenly.  I ordered the duck breast and my husband had the wild salmon.  Both were cook perfectly and tasted wonderful.  The dessert was really great also!!

Drinks were a lot cheaper than the Fairmont!  The bar menu also had some items that could be ordered and eaten in the bar and they all sounded really good.

When return to Whistler next year we will definitely go to Monk's grill for dinner and/or lunch.  Can not wait.  As the ad says above the views are spectacular.
